Our engagement with the environment begins with our perception of it. From precious minerals forged over millennia of intense geological pressure to the delicate breathing anatomy of life, my work responds to the complex visual artistry of the natural world.
I draw inspiration from a wide artistic heritage: the dramatic vitality of Bernini’s marble drapery, the meticulous naturalism of Ernst Haeckel’s lithographs, and the elemental synergy of earth, wind, water, and fire realized in the Korean Hang Ah Ri (항아리). As an artist and educator, I translate the beauty encountered in nature that invigorates all of our senses into visual form.
In an overwhelming world of rapid consumption, my practice advocates for stillness and deliberate observation that serves as a haven for quiet and meditation. Working with traditional tools, every intentional soft layer and bold stroke reflects a slow, contemplative process. Through familiar forms and refined line work, I illuminate the underlying architecture of these objects, capturing an intimate connection to nature and celebrating its silent grace.
